The total dataset size (all stations gzip'd) is around 23GB. If you require the whole dataset and download speeds or limits are an issue please contact us and we will investigate alternative solutions.
Currently there are two download alternatives. Either each station can be accessed individually, should you only need a small number of stations. Or groups of stations can be downloaded at tar.gz archives. The groupings have been done by WMO number, with approximately 400-600 stations per archive. Stations with WMO number starting with 7 have been split into 4 separate archives.
The station listing with IDs, names and location information is here.
The individual station download page can be accessed here
The individual station humidity and heatstress download page can be accessed here
NOTE: because of the large file size of these tar.gz archives, if you are having download problems, we recommend that you download each station individually using a script.
Details about the netCDF files, including variable names, can be found here
The current version of HadISD is 3.4.1.202408p. For previous versions please contact the dataset maintainers MD5 Checksum (md5sum) for each tar.gz archive is available here
